Just getting started on the new adventure that is WhereShouldISki.com. This website will provide skiers the freedom to know WHERE to ski to MAXIMIZE your enjoyment.
Specifically, within seconds skiers will be answer the following questions:
- Where the best snow will be today?
- How does the weekend look?
- Is it worth it to drive an extra hour to try a different resort?
- Is it going to be sunny - maybe a great day to give ski lessons to a friend?
- How does the backcountry / avy ratings look?
- Is all skiing in my area going to suck? Should I spend the day getting other stuff done that has been pending?
- Should I call in "sick" to go skiing today ;)
WhereShouldISki is going to be in BETA mode this year - with a limited number of resorts primarily in the Pacific Northwest as I am based in Washington. I hope to expand as quickly as possible, and I plan to regularly update this blog with new releases.
As for the brains behind the data, the initial plan for the 2012-2013 season is to start small - focusing on data aggregation and relatively straightforward algorithms to come up with a predictor rating for different types of skiing - powder, backcountry, and bluebird. Once more data is collected I plan to run more advanced machine learning algorithms, using a combination of supervised and unsupervised learning to conduct deeper analysis of the data and provide stronger recommendations and new types of ratings, perhaps snow quality?
